Outdoor Adventure

Paddle Canada Sea Kayak & Canoe Certifications - Since 2012, I have completed five paddling certifications with Paddle Canada. These certifications were attained over the course of two years of paddling on both the Ottawa and Madawaska Rivers, as well as Georgian Bay, on Lake Huron. I have completed one instructor certification, as well as four skills courses, which are as follows:

  • Lake Canoe Instructor Tandem (Exp. 31/12/2020)
  • Canoe Tripping Skills Advanced Tandem & Solo
  • Moving Water Canoe Skills Intermediate Tandem
  • Moving Water Canoe Skills Intermediate Solo
  • Sea Kayak Skills Level 2

Level 1 Instructor from Canadian Alliance of Snowboard Instructors- In March of 2014, I successfully completed my Level 1 Snowboard Instructors course. The course, which I took at Mount Pakenham, not only improved my snowboard ability, but it allowed me the opportunity to get hands on experience teaching in the snow school at the ski hill.

Assistant Trail Guide from Canadian Mountain Bike Guide Affiliation- In the fall of 2012, I became a certified Mountain Bike Assistant Trail Guide. To attain this certification, I demonstrated the ability to perform basic bike maintenance, as well as the ability to comfortably lead a 40 kilometre, day long, trail ride.

Leave No Trace Trainer from Leave No Trace- I acquired my Leave No Trace Trainer certification, while on a sea kayak trip on Georgian Bay, in October of 2013. I spent nine days on trail demonstrating proper Leave No Trace expedition behaviour and facilitating two discussions focussed on the seven principles of Leave No Trace.

Honours Bachelor in Outdoor Recreation, Lakehead University, 2019- In the Fall of 2016, I began attending Lakehead University, in Thunder Bay, with the intention of completing two degrees in three years. During my time in the Outdoor Recreation program, I led trips for the department's Outdoor Skills & Theory class, I pursued a thesis- which unfortunately could not be completed due to forest fires in my geographic region of study- and I graduated with a First Class Standing.

Bachelor of Arts in Geography, Lakehead University, 2019- While attending Lakehead University, I also received a BA in Geography. This degree pairs well with my degree in Outdoor Recreation, as I spent three years studying the physical, social, and cultural world we live in. By furthering my education when it comes to topics such as weather, climate, and geomorphology, I have become a more knowledgeable outdoor adventure guide.

Ontario College Diploma in Outdoor Adventure, Algonquin College, 2014- In September of 2012, I began Algonquin College's Outdoor Adventure program. I spent two years acquiring guiding certifications and learning about the business side of the outdoor adventure industry. In order to graduate, I also had to spend 40 days working as a leader in the Outdoor Adventure Industry, which I completed by guiding canoe trips for Camp Temagami in the Summer of 2013.

Other Notable Credentials

Smart Serve Certification- With this certification, I am licensed to serve alcohol. In order to acquire this credential, I had to spend four hours of online studying the responsibilities and liabilities that I have as the server. I became a qualified server of alcohol in winter of 2012.

Safe Food Handler Certification- In September of 2012, I completed my Safe Food Handler Certification, which is a qualification that is issued by the British Columbia Government. This certification involved an hour long class on health and sanitation when handling food. This certification is an indication that I know how to prepare food safely, which is of critical importance when in a wilderness setting.
